I have noticed that even though my students are diverse learners they share the same trait of finding PE exciting. Assisting with adapted PE the past 2 weeks has been eye opening for me. To see the challenges these kids face is hard but teaching them and giving them the same equal opportunity gives a wholesome feeling when you see them smile as they exit the gymnasium. I have seen classes with special ed, special needs, and ELL. I try my best to make it an inclusive environment where students always feel a sense of belonging.
PE is a class where students can have fun AND be active at the same time. It's awesome that you are able to assist with adapted PE and see how other students get their physical education. Kind of like the music classroom, I feel like PE can be a classroom where everyone is welcome as they are.
ReplyDeleteGood for you, Jerry! Your position will make a difference for all students and Iam so happy it is happening for the students you are working with now. They can really excel in other ways once they feel success in PE. Thanks for really caring and learning from them.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Caitlin; PE is a great way to see a different side of students due to the fun aspect that students often see PE as. What are some ways that you feel you have been able to provide equal opportunity for diverse learners?
ReplyDeleteI have also noticed now excited my students get for PE, no matter who they are or where they come from!
ReplyDeletePE gets everyone excited no matter the student! Adaptive PE would be an interesting class to work with to see a different side of students you wouldn't normally see! Adaptive classes are eye opening to see students in a different light! I worked with an adaptive theatre class last year and was an amazing experience to see!
